Sliding Mode Control-Based MPPT and Output Voltage Regulation of a Stand-alone PV System

Abstract When it comes to reducing emissions caused by the generation of electricity, among different renewable energy sources, solar gains prominence, due its geographical availability, simplicity implementation, and absence physical moving parts. However, performance photovoltaic systems is dependent on environmental conditions. Depending temperature irradiation, (PV) system has an operating point where maximum power can be generated. The techniques that are implemented find this so-called tracking (MPPT) algorithms. Since weather conditions variable in nature, output voltage PV needs regulated remain equal reference. Most existing studies focus either MPPT or regulation system. In paper, two-stage so both achieved simultaneously. Additionally, improved version perturb observe (P&O) algorithm based artificial potential fields (APF), called APF-P&O, presented. According results simulations carried out MATLAB/Simulink software, APF-P&O method more efficient than conventional method.
